About the Fort Mill Swim Team
Thank you for your interest in the Fort Mill High School Swim Team. We are a highly competitive high school swim team (Aug-Oct) made up of roughly 25 girls and 25 boys, with a maximum of 50 swimmers.
Criteria for making the team:
Times and Talent. Tryouts are a fluid process where we look at all aspects including talent in multiple areas and practice skills, including flip turns, strokes, etc. If we have two athletes with the same times, we will look at the overall skills. Younger and/or less experienced swimmers can be at a disadvantage; however, it is always our intent to make the best decisions for the good of the team. Recent summer swimming times and tryout time trials are very important.
Commitment to the Team and Ability to Practice. We have a very strict attendance policy, and swimmers are required to attend all scheduled practices during the season with very few exceptions. Swimmers must have the ability to swim all 4 strokes and manage 2000-4000 yard workouts.
If/when your swimmer makes the team, attendance will be mandatory for all practices. Positive Behavior, Respect, and Citizenship. We expect the behavior of our swimmers to be better than that of the general population. Swimmers are expected to demonstrate above average citizenship. Disrespect of any kind will not be tolerated. Please be advised that being selected to this team is a privilege and not a right.
You must meet certain qualifications in order to try out for swimming. All swimmers must upload completed physical (FMSD physical form) via the PlanetHS website BEFORE THE FIRST PRACTICE. Also, a copy of the swimmer’s birth certificate (new swimmers only) and parent permission forms must be uploaded to the Arbiter Athlete website before the first day. We also require a signed code of conduct, it will be mandatory for all swimmers who are selected for the team. Please bring the signed form and swimmer information sheet to the first day of tryouts.
This is going to be a very fast and very competitive year. All swimmers need to be prepared to do their best.
